The father of Bea was Brian was a veterinarian who worked with horses who died by suicide aged three. But, she did not learn the cause of her death until thirteen years later. She adopted the stage name Bea as a tribute to her father. She she wrote an article for The Guardian in 2017 about her family's experience of suicide. Bea as well as her sister Sinead were taken care of by their maternal grandmother Helen (nee Moloney) an elementary school teacher, jockey trainer, and former professional jockey. Her parents were obsessed by racing and horses. In her youth Bea employed as an instructor in the Irish National Stud however she realized at an early age that she wasn't interested in the racing industry as a career and instead was a performer.
